In an email on the last day of July, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Preston Cole reminded employees that Gov. Tony Evers’ mask order was going into effect the next day. He went on to instruct all employees that everyone must wear a mask when in a DNR facility, which makes sense. But then he went further.
“Also, wear your mask, even if you are home, to participate in a virtual meeting that involves being seen — such as on Zoom or another video-conferencing platform — by non-DNR staff. Set the safety example which shows you as a DNR public service employee care about the safety and health of others.”
Shows you care? By wearing a mask when not at risk of either getting infected or spreading the disease? That doesn’t show you care, it shows you’re an idiot, and it wreaks of forced participation. Even the governor’s mask order excluded private residences, and yet here is a cabinet secretary demanding employees do something stupid to prove they support and show solidarity with “the cause.”
