Police Charge Uzbek Woman Who Beat Up Harrassers, But Then Drop Charges

If you can find Uzbekistan on a map, then you’re pretty good at geography. It’s one of the many “stan” countries in Central Asia that used to be part of the Soviet Union.

If you happen to find yourself in that country, be respectful of the women, because you never know when one might chase you down and beat the snot out of you.

Two men, aged 33 and 30, apparently ridiculed 23-year-old Gulsanam Alijonova about her t-shirt and shorts outfit and then insulted her when she called them out for it. She confronted the men and then one of them grabbed her shirt. That was the wrong move.

Alijonova, trained in boxing, karate, and taekwondo, lit up the one man who grabbed her shirt, and when the second man intervened, she gave him a beating as well. The episode was captured on video and has gone viral on social media.

Last week the Interior Ministry said it had identified Alijonova and launched a criminal case against her for hooliganism. The public wasn’t having it.

On Monday, police in the Namangan province where the incident took place issued a statement that they dropped the case after the state agency for youth affairs and the local youth union vouched for the girl, citing her sports achievements, previously clean record and volunteer work.

Of course, there’s also the fact that she smacks down young men who disrespect her, which is kind of awesome.
