The Commission on Presidential Debates announced that for health concern reasons the second presidential debate will be virtual, hosting the candidates in separate locations.
President Trump isn’t having it.
“I heard that the debate commission a little while ago changed the debate style, and that’s not acceptable to us. I’m not going to do a virtual debate. I am not going to waste my time on a virtual debate. That’s not what debating is all about, you sit behind a computer and do a debate. That’s ridiculous, they cut you off whenever they want.”
“For the swamp creatures at the Presidential Debate Commission to now rush to Joe Biden’s defense by unilaterally canceling an in-person debate is pathetic. The safety of all involved can easily be achieved without canceling a chance for voters to see both candidates go head to head. We’ll pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead.”
Given that Trump’s doctors now say that his system contains COVID-19 antibodies, it’s interesting the debate commission would claim health concerns as the reason for changing the debate format. Presuming the president is past the point of infecting others, he can’t catch the disease anytime soon, which would protect Biden, as long as the two don’t come close to the moderator.
Maybe there’s some other reason they want the debates to be online. Maybe Trump is closer to the real reason when he mentions the ability to “cut you off” whenever they want.
