It seems like Willie Nelson has always been around, and will never die. Of course it’s not true, but he has been consistent for decades, wearing his hair in braids, singing at a stuttered pace off the music that no one can follow, and smoking copious amounts of pot.
Nelson famously fell asleep in his car on the side of the road and when the police rousted him they found pot in his ash tray. He now supports a legal brand of pot in states that have allowed use of the drug.
But, citing his health, Nelson has decided to quit toking.
Nelson, 86, said:
“I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful. I started smoking cedar bark, went from that to cigarettes to whatever. And that almost killed me. I don’t smoke anymore – take better care of myself.”
When asked about the rumors of his poor health, Nelson responded:
“I don’t give a (expletive deleted). I’m here, I’m glad to be here,” and with a smile added “I’m lucky to be here.”
