Teachers Say ‘No,’ Trump Says ‘Go,’ As COVID-19 Deaths Climb

Teachers at more than 35 school districts are protesting against re-opening schools during the pandemic, demanding no in-person classes yet and, when they do resume, smaller class sizes, testing, and more nurses.

On Twitter, the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association showed protesters making fake gravestones that said “Here lies a third grade student from Green Bay who caught COVID at school” and “RIP Grandma caught COVID helping grand kids with homework.”

In addition to keeping schools closed, the teachers also called for more money for parents, rental and mortgage assistance, cash assistance, and a continued moratorium on evictions and foreclosures.

Their cause is not exactly in line with President Trump, who called for opening schools on schedule.

Trump tweeted:

“Cases up because of BIG Testing! Much of our Country is doing very well. Open the Schools!”

While more testing does lead to more cases, it doesn’t cause a change in the percentage of positive cases among those tested, and has no bearing on the number of hospitalizations and deaths due to the virus.

Best thing that can come out of this whole thing: Keep the teacher’s union on the sidelines forever.
