NYC Mayor de Blasio Furlough’s Himself and Other Staff for One Week

Apparently, you can fire yourself, if only for one week…

That’s what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio just announced. To help close the $9 billion budget gap, de Blasio will furlough everyone in his office, including himself, for one week starting on October 1. The city is expected to lose $9 billion in revenue due to the pandemic and has identified $7 billion in spending cuts so far.

The move will affect around 500 people who will stagger their furloughs between October and March so as not to disrupt the work of the office. The move will save about $1 million, which is only a drop in the bucket, but de Blasio sees it as a sign of shared sacrifice.

De Blasio said:

“It was not a decision I made lightly. To have to do this is painful for them and their families, but it is the right thing to do at this moment in history.”

Just a suggestion… why not furlough all the city leadership for a year?  It will save more money, and no leadership might be better than what they have today. Just sayin’…

Surely he doesn’t think this will atone for his Dictator attitude, his attitude towards law and order, and him allowing destroying, looting and burning people out of business. Tourists don’t want to go to New York, New Yorkers don’t want to go to New York. He has it looking like a hell hole. Big deal one week’s salary. How does that compare to a loss of lifetime investment in a business, people out of work for 6 months already and ongoing, no where to live without money, rich people vacating NY in droves. There is a solution Mr. Mayor. RESIGN and let someone with common sense run what used to be the ‘best City in the World’.

So noble and courageous of him…but why sacrifice the staff? Just resign and save the city a lot of wasted money!
