These are strange times indeed.
On Wednesday, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker banned the use of reusable shopping bags, which have become a signature virtue-signaling item for shoppers and states across the nation as a way to show they care for the environment and acknowledge climate change.
The governor’s move acknowledges something else, reusable bags can transmit disease, carrying it back and forth with shoppers as they move to and from stores.
The governor also banned charging customers for plastic or paper shopping bags.
It looks like pet owners who use the single-use bags to pick up after their pets, and people who use them as small trash can liners, will get a break… at least for a while.
