Impossible Foods makes plant-based meat products, which made quite a splash over the last 12 months. Now the company plans to sell its meatless burgers at 2,100 Walmart stores in the U.S. as it tries to boost its retail sales while many restaurants remain closed.
Impossible Foods already sells its goods in Kroger stores. Adding Walmart makes the plant-based meat available in more than 8,000 locations, a 50-fold increase since the start of the year.
But will it work? There’s no socio-economic limit on who can or can’t buy plant-based meat products, but it doesn’t sound like it fits with the stereotypical Walmart shopper. Somehow the phrase, “Can I have a meatless burger with my PBR,” just doesn’t resonate. That’s not a knock on the burgers or PBRs, just an observation that they don’t seem to travel in the same circles.
