Early on Sunday President Trump lashed out in another round of tweets. Among his comments, Trump aimed at House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) and tweeted:
Shifty Adam Schiff is a CORRUPT POLITICIAN, and probably a very sick man. He has not paid the price, yet, for what he has done to our Country!
Asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if he viewed that as a threat, Schiff said, “I think it was intended to be.”
A death threat? Hardly. Maybe Trump meant that Schiff would be run out of office in November, or perhaps he meant that Schiff should be brought up on charges for what Trump and several Republicans see as a miscarriage of justice in the House, or even charged with lying over his contact with the Ukranian phone call whistleblower or other things. But a death threat?
President Trump has many qualities, but subtlety isn’t among them. He doesn’t hold back or pull punches. It sounds like Schiff isn’t that familiar with the president’s tweets, where Trump often says things that raise eyebrows in his “in-your-face” style.
Perhaps Schiff is trying to match Trump in hyperbole. If so, it’s not working.
