Italy has recorded 63,000 coronavirus infections and 6,078 deaths, making it the worst-hit country in the world by absolute numbers, and the worst-hit on a per capita basis by far. But things might be turning for the better.
Italy reported 793 deaths on Saturday and many people were making dire predictions about the week ahead. On Sunday Italy recorded 651 deaths, but that might have been because of slow reporting on the weekend. Then Monday Italy reported 602 deaths, and suddenly a lower trend has been established.
It’s much too early to celebrate or even become hopeful, but it does seem to be a small bright spot in an otherwise horrible situation.
