Can we just be done with this whole pandemic thing? It’s gone on a long time and everyone is pretty tired of it.
According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, some of the worst-hit states might be on the edge of relief.
Regarding the outbreak in the Sunbelt states, Fauci said:
“They may be cresting and coming back down.”
That would be welcome news in Florida, Arizona, Texas, and a handful of other states that have seen their COVID-19 cases shoot higher over the past six weeks.
Unfortunately, the number of cases is on the rise in other states such as Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky. Fauci urged people and authorities in those states to be careful, and to follow CDC guidelines.
Fauci has drawn fire from President Trump who accused him of exaggerating the extent and severity of the U.S. outbreak and playing down possible treatments. Trump retweeted a post accusing Fauci and Democrats of suppressing the use of the drug hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus. The post included a link to a video of a group discounting the need for face masks.
Twitter confirmed that the tweet with the video violated the company’s COVID-19 misinformation policy and deleted the tweets.
